Start the New Year Afresh

The New Year 2020 is just around the corner. I am so excited to start the new year 2020 afresh and I think you should too.

2019 is coming to an end in about a week’s time.

This is the time that new year resolutions will become popular. New year resolutions are very easy to make and hard to keep.

If your year in 2019 has not gone as expected, and your new year resolutions did not last, why don’t you start this new year 2020 afresh?

The beginning of a new year is always a great time to start afresh.

Lessons from 2019

At the beginning of the year 2019, I set some specific goals.

I did quite well on most of the goals set and I am pleased that I do have achievable goals. I started the year very well with taking actions and steps to fulfil my goals but I slowed down on some goals towards the end of the year and did not achieve the outcome expected from all of my goals.

So I have learnt a few things to ensure I stay fresh and fired up to consistently take the necessary actions and follow through with the plan in the coming year 2020.

I have come up with 4 steps that one should continuously and consistently take to help start and stay fresh throughout the year.

  • Wipe – wipe away any or all disappointments of the previous year, including negativity or frustrations or anger. You have another opportunity presented to you to get things right. Focus only on the lessons learnt, so that you can make the necessary changes for a better outcome in the new year. Be aware always of negativity creeping in and immediately deal with it.

  • Write – write your goals down. Start the new year 2020 afresh by having a plan. Whatever it is you want to achieve, write it in your goals book. Look at it constantly. Review it on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Include the following or consider the following when writing your goals:

Why – Have a compelling ‘why’. The reason behind what you want to achieve should be strong.
What – be clear about the specific details of what you want to achieve and what needs to be done to achieve it.
Where – understand where you need to be to take the actions required, consider all the necessary factors.
When – set deadlines, timescales and keep focused.

It is important to plan the Year in advance. I read Brian Tracy’s book – ‘Eat that Frog’ many years ago and it places emphasis on the Six ‘P’ Formula – Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

  • Work with a mentor – It’s advisable to get a mentor or coach or any necessary person or persons you think could assist in helping you move forward and upward. Make yourself accountable to someone. Invest in your progress. Enrol on relevant courses (on-line courses or others). Growth and development is essential to progress, performance and productivity.
  • Work on yourself – press on the toward the goal – do something daily that moves you in the direction of your goal. Be in spiritual, physical and emotional shape, that means exercising your body, mind and spirit daily as appropriate to you. Remember MAP – see previous blog.

Start 2020 Afresh

Starting the new year 2020 afresh may be easy but continuity and consistency is where the challenge is, and daily motivation can help.
Starting afresh is an easy decision to make especially at the beginning of a new year in January with new year resolutions flying about; but we need to stay fresh and fired up all year through if we are to achieve substantial outcomes.

In summary, its a New Year. Do something New e.g. write your goals, plan, consistently take action, review regularly, enjoy.
